Applied Research Specialist Portugal
This position will help identify, evaluate and assist with the development and commercialization of strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and blueberry production solutions invented at Driscoll or learned from others to produce maximum profits for growers by decreasing fruit waste, increasing yield of delightful fruit for our consumers and customers. DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES: • Help define grower’s requirements for fact sheets. • Define, prioritize and communicate regional farming needs and gaps. • Transfer of knowledge to and from other regions. • Help determine needs for applied research in Driscoll’s Test Plot. • Execute On Farm Trials to improve new genetic selections performance and ensure their successful commercialization. • Collect additional information in On Farm Trials to confirm features, advantages and benefits such as marketable yield, fruit quality, disease and pest resistance and report on those. • Execute new research techniques and innovative processes. • Be a connection to Nursery, Breeding and Global Research. • Help organize field days demonstrations and tours to show high potential (new) genetic selections to growers. • In collaboration with Breeding, Production and Nursery will be assisting with: • Allocate plants of new selections for OFT. • Help update Cultivars and advanced selections Fact Sheets with most relevant OFT results. • Farming: Help consult in growing test plots that support the work of research and breeding departments in the districts. Plots should be at least as good as a grower standard. Report accurate records throughout growing season in response to changes in field and test plots. • Realize the necessary cultural operations for AR trials and realize observation and data collection on those;
